Being Conservative Essays - Wallet, Eating, , Term Papers
Being Conservative Being Conservative As my friends and I enter a nearby McDonalds down the street, we all have one thing on our minds, food. ?A number nine,? one of my friends calls out, ?with an apple pie.? ?I'll take a number three with extra mayo,? another one of my friends says. Finally, it is my turn to order. ?Hmm,? I think to myself. ?I am not going to eat because then I'll have to pay.? I figured if I said I wasn't hungry then my friends will offer me their food, and in the end I wouldn't have to pull out my wallet. A lesson of how to budget money is to be learned from this situation. Many times in everyday life, you must learn how to save money, in other word being what I like to call ?tite,? or ?tight,? as it is commonly known. Being tight, in fact, is a sure way to save money. So, if you are on a budget, the instructions that follow provide the best policy. Eventually, you will have to pay for or share something. Thus, you should learn how to be tight to avoid these certain situations as much as possible. First and foremost, before you decide to be tight, you must understand the concept of a good excuse. For instance, saying you don't have money and then going to the mall and buying an eighty-dollar shirt cannot easily be justified; however, your purchase can be justified if you claim your girlfriend bought the shirt for you. In addition, another good excuse when trying to avoid these situations is saying that you forgot your wallet at home. The ?leaving your wallet at home? excuse is the most common excuse known to tight people. When you are stuck in a situation where you are about to be called tight, this excuse always does the trick. However, you shouldn't overuse this excuse because just like a pair of tennis shoes it gets worn out quickly. When you are hungry, it is always important to check how much money is present in your wallet. If, after looking at your wallet and finding that you are no longer hungry, wait for others to invite you to eat, for an invitation to eat is a sure ticket in not paying for the meal. So be calm and be tight and let others treat you to a meal, which you don't have to pay. In the end, your hunger will be satisfied and your wallet will still be full. Knowing who you are eating with is also important in being tight. If the party you are eating with is tighter than you are, suggest driving in two separate cars. Tell your party you will meet them there. Yet, before you leave for the restaurant, make sure to tell your party to order your food for you. Give them an excuse and tell them you'll be late and will not have time to eat. Then, by the time you get there, your food will be ready and free, for your friends would have made it their business to pay for the food. Again as noted, a good excuse should always be made to avoid paying for your food. However, if your plan does not succeed, go to plan B, which encompass the realm of eating off your friends' plate to satisfy the hunger of your stomach and the drive for saving money in your wallet. However, as a warning, all plans may lose their effect after prolong use. So, it is crucial for you to alternate your plans and excuses as much as possible. Always view the situation at all angles. Remember, in order to be a good ?tightwad,? a person who is tight, you should always take into consideration the techniques you use in being tight. Soon, someone will catch on to your technique; therefore, change your behavior and pay for a meal every now and then. Yet, before you pay, remember that next time your friends will pay for you. Last but not least, always take into consideration paying for a meal when the total amount is small and save the large amounts for your much wealthier friends. Like the money in our

When Content Mills Give You Lemons, Make Lemonade That Pays
When Content Mills Give You Lemons, Make Lemonade That Pays A few years ago, I found myself in a bind. I graduated with my MPS in Publishing and had big plans of earning a full-time income from some sort of writing and publishing. As a single mother who has worked from home for over a decade, returning to the traditional workforce was not an option. I had no It wasnââ¬â¢t long before my search for a writing opportunity led me toà Crowd Content. As far as content mills go, it seemed to be midlevel. I created a writer profile, took a skill level test and started claiming jobs. The general rules are that a writer may accept four jobs at a time, the deadlines are ridiculously tight and inflexible, and gaining ââ¬Å"favoriteâ⬠status from clients is important. If a deadline is missed or a client complains, the writer is demoted. I quickly accepted jobs of all kinds. I wrote product descriptions for online vape stores, press releases for Las Vegas lingerie parties, and fin tech and legal blog posts. I wrote until 1AM and woke up at 5AM to write some more. Meeting the insane deadlines was an act of futility. But, my skill level was ââ¬Å"4 Starâ⬠and I was earning 6 to 7 cents per word, so it added up. After a couple of months, I was consistently making $1800/month. Not a full-time salary, but a start. It didnââ¬â¢t take me long to figure out that even if I worked for eight full hours each day, I would never make more than $3,000/month and that fell remarkably short of my goal. I would have to work smarter, not harder. So, here is what I did: 1. Identify the Big Fish A few of my content mill clients stood out and with a bit of research, I had a list of seven clients that I would love to work for outside of the content mill. 2. Focus on Relationships Content mills desperately try to limit contact between writers and clients to preserve their profitable workflow. I worked within their system to build strong relationships based on reliability and high quality work with my seven clients. These clients expressed frustration with the rigidity of the platform and so we had that in common. 3. Pitch With some research, I contacted my list of seven through either email or social media. (If the content mill knows that you are usurping their platform, they will ban you, so make sure that you are prepared.) My pitch looked something like this: ââ¬Å"I have been writing for your company for a few months. I plan to leave Crowd Content because of the inflexibility of their platform, but would like to continue writing for your company. I am guessing that you pay 12 to 15 cents per word for my blog posts. If you are interested in hiring me outside of Crowd Content, pricing will only be 10 cents per word for future blog posts.â⬠Five of the seven clients replied and hired me outside of Crowd Content. They are now paying less, and I am making more in fewer hours. I complete complex projects that were not supported

What is Success Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
What is Success - Essay Example Third, one can achieve success by describing success blatantly. It is impossible to achieve true success if one does not know its true meaning. This is because everybody defines success in a different manner. After looking up the word success, I learned that success is only important if it has a personal meaning to an individual. Establishing objectives that correspond with this meaning of success is the next method for realizing it. Struggling to succeed in keeping with another individualââ¬â¢s standards or meaning of success is not a good idea. One may achieve such success and earn admiration and respect from society when in fact he or she lacks a sense of personal fulfillment. According to William Sumner, one can only define success in either the context of public view or oneââ¬â¢s idea of the world. As a result, what one thinks is important in life shapes our definition of success. There are numerous criteria for determining and measuring success. As a result, Sumner created ââ¬Å"The Inevitable Youâ⬠model for achieving success. ââ¬Å"The Inevitable Youâ⬠is supposed to help people come up ideas of success through psychological and ââ¬Å"neural patternâ⬠software (Sumner 2013). This software defines reality. I do not entirely agree with this program for achieving because of its extremely far-fetched basis. As a result, I do not think people should pay attention to what Sumner says about success. According to Jessica Hamilton, success is a modest and local livelihood that is thrilling skillfully and links or motivates an individual physically and spiritually (TEDx Talks 2013). Hamilton clarifies that success should entail repeated and fixed notions and images. Success should be capable of establishing a social benchmark. Irrespective of oneââ¬â¢s salary, their plans for success should have a feeling of growth and purpose. Hamilton says that her children ââ¬Å"are emotionally empoweredâ⬠because she teaches them these aspects

Capital Budgeting Techniques Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Capital Budgeting Techniques - Research Paper Example The purpose of this paper is to describe these techniques and to compare and contrast the pros and cons associated with each of these four capital budgeting techniques. The payback period is used to quantify the expected number of years required to recover the original investment made on a project based on the cash flows that the project generates over its lifetime. The main advantage of this capital budgeting technique is its simplicity. The way to calculate payback period is by adding up the expected cash flows for each year until the original investment of the project is recovered. The basic logic of the method is that it is better to recover the original investment sooner than later. A disadvantage of the payback period method is that it disregards the time value of money. Another capital budget technique to evaluate projects is the net present value or NPV. This method evaluates capital investment projects by finding the present value of future net cash flows, discounted at the rate of return required by the firm (Besley, et al. 2000). One of the pros associated with this capital budgeting technique is that it takes into consideration the time value of money. A project is accepted based on this technique if the NPV output is above cero, while projects that have a negative NPV should be rejected. A disadvantage of the NPV method is that it does not measure the interest rates, profitability, and other benefits relative to the amount invested (Glann, 2009). A third capital budgeting method is the internal rate of return or IRR. The internal rate of return is the rate of return the firm expects to earn if the project is purchased; thus it is defined as the discount rate that equates the present value of a projectââ¬â¢s expected cash flow to the investment outlay, or initial cost (Besley, et al. 2000). A pro of the IRR method is that it takes into consideration the time value of money. A project evaluated based on IRR is accepted if the IRR result is greater

Reaction to, ââ¬ÅMy name is Margaretââ¬Â
This story reminds me of a sad time in our history when the people of this nation thought they could own another human being. I would like to say this time has passed, but we are barely able to hang on. We may have a bi=racial president, but there is still racism among the old south. Margaret was only a child and she was being groomed to be the help. It may have been on different scale verses working in a field, but all the same. She talks about her experience and recalls the events in such a way that you are taken back and can almost see what she is describing. I love the names in the essay, Miss Glory having been named Hallelujah. I felt horrible when Mrs. Cullinan changed her name to suit her friends. I do not even change the names of my animals. If they are named already it seems inhuman to call them by a different name. Mrs. Cullinan wanted to change Margaret to make it shorter, but oh my goodness is that ever degrading. The first time Mrs. Cullinan attempts to call her Mary, Miss Glory asks, ââ¬Å"WHO? â⬠¦ this is funny to me because she is trying to defend Margaret and express as much sympathetic dislike for the name change. Miss Glory even says she felt sorry for Margaret. I liked how Angelou described the old traditions that little ladies were trained in: learning to dance, sit and sip tea, and embroider. It reminds me of spending time to teach my daughters how to perform regular house hold chores and cook. We like to bake together, but soon my nine year old, Elyssa, will be in the kitchen helping with the cooking. I started my son out kind of the same way. He started with how to cook eggs and boil water for ice tea. In this story Margaret is learning how to work and support herself and family for a living. She will be working in the upper class homes for employment and will have to serve a Lady of the House. In this essay, Angelou also speaks of a Mr. Cullinan and his indiscretions, having not one but two children by a ââ¬Å"colored woman. ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ They are quick to sympathize with Mrs. Cullinan, but still did not excuse her for her mannerisms. She even writes a poem about this, ââ¬Å"pain and loneness. â⬠I would think there would be more understanding, but she is only a child in this story. In the end Mrs. Cullinan did finally agree her name was Margaret and Miss Glory who once felt sorry for Margaret now some what identified with Mrs. Cullinan. Miss Glory must have known before she even asked because she called her Mary. The best part was as Margaret walked out she left the front door open so all would hear the distressed Mrs. Cullinan who married beneath her status.

Results and Conclusion Paper Essay
Once these children had been selected, height and weight measurements were calculated and the children began enduring the tests. There were different tests for height, weight, sex and age brackets for the children. Also, body mass index (BMI) was figured out for the children. This method of data collection is appropriate for this article due to the fact that the problem is that there is too much childhood obesity in 9 and 10 year old children and the testing of children of all heights, weights and both sexes is a good way to figure out an average of just how much the average child is overweight. The reliability of this article is just that the tests were done over and over again during different parts of the years to show that the childrenââ¬â¢s body mass index differed very little. The validity of this article is that the testing was done on a wide enough group of children that the point was well proven. In this article and during the testing of the children, they were not run ragged or forced to do these tests. Sportslinx was the one to help find the children from the schools, the article does not state if there was any other type of protection or permissions for these children to attend the testing for this survey. In doing testing on a especially children, there are many laws that have to be followed. For one the children are minors, meaning that the people doing the testing have to have parent or guardian consent. If something were to happen to these children medically speaking the parent or guardian would have to be notified, and then be present at the time of the childââ¬â¢s treatment. Each child would then have HIPPA rights, as well as privacy rights if they were treated for medical reasons. For the testing each child would have the human rights as well as privacy rights. All of these have to be taken in to account due to the fact that the children are after all just little people. Qualitative and Quantitative Data Qualitative and quantitative data are very important in research studies. The distinctions between qualitative and quantitative is that qualitative is the quality of the research data, and quantitative is the quantity of the research data. The qualitative data in this research study is the fact that the study was done on children of multiple ages, both genders, different weights and multiple body mass indexes, (BMI), and put them through the same types of test continuously. This was done to get baseline readings for different types of situations, and multiple height weight ratios. The quantitative data in this research study was the fact that the study repeated the testing on the children year after year to continue the readings, and configure the data readings. With this being done this helps be more factual with what is happening per child rather than an estimation or an educated guess of what could possibly happen with each child. Data Analysis Procedures Data analysis procedures are important in research studies because they tell if the a sample is taken or if this research is done as a whole. In the event of this study research, the data analysis procedure is an inferential statistical analysis. ââ¬Å"An inferential statistical analysis involves observation of a sample of a given population. Conclusions about the population are inferred from the information obtained about the sampleâ⬠(Neutens & Rubinson, 2010). In the case of this research study, there is a sample of children that are taken from the population and are tested an observed. Conclusions are drawn after the testing is concluded, and the data is recorded. Study Findings/Study Conclusion The findings of the article were great. The findings were much different than what was expected. The body mass index, (BMI), of the children changed very ittle of the year with the testing, and the same activities. Their body mass index hit a plateau because the children got used to the routines that they were doing. Which in modern diet and exercise, this has been shown to happen, so this can be expected of the children. Now if their routines had changed every now and then maybe they would have had better results. In the case of this research study, it is hard to believe that these children were on very strict diets for this long. It is stated that the testing was done on a year to year basis. Children are constantly eating junk food and having soda, and many other things that they should not be having, and it is very hard to believe that they went without these types of things for this long, unless they lived in a facility for the entire time of the testing, which is not stated. For better testing results a better research study would have to be done. For this research study the participants would have to live on-site, in a facility that could house many people for over 30 days. The next thing that would have to be done, is that all of the participants would have to be on the same type of diet. IF the participants are allowed to eat whatever they like this defeats the purpose. Lastly, for a research study like this all of the participants would have to do the same amount of daily exercise. Within 30 days of the start date of the study there would be a change in the participants, many would notice weight loss, and some would even notice new muscle growth. If the test was elongated then the participants would notice more changes. The limits of the research study that was done limit the conclusion that can be made for future predictions. In Closing In closing there are many things that could have been differently to change the results of the research study that was done. Maybe there could have been better results and outcomes out of the study as a whole. Yet at the same time there were many results that came out of the study that was done, and this will still be able to help many children in the world now. Maybe in the future another study will be done with newer and more improved testing structures. Reference Neutens, J. J. , & Rubinson, L.
